<p>AC&amp;U has <a title="ANNOUCEMENT" href="http://www.aacu.org/press_room/press_releases/2010/lucegenedgrant10.cfm?utm_source=meetings&amp;utm_medium=blast&amp;utm_campaign=lucegenedgrantcfp2">announced</a> a new project – <a title="General Education" href="http://www.aacu.org/SharedFutures/global_century/index.cfm?utm_source=meetings&amp;utm_medium=blast&amp;utm_campaign=lucegenedgrantcfp2">General Education for a Global Century</a> – funded by a generous grant from the Henry Luce Foundation.  The project seeks to build the capacity of colleges and universities to prepare today’s college students to grapple with big global challenges and thrive in a globalized economy as socially responsible and engaged citizens and workers.</p>
<p>Part of AAC&amp;U’s ongoing initiative, <a href="http://www.aacu.org/SharedFutures/index.cfm?utm_source=meetings&amp;utm_medium=blast&amp;utm_campaign=lucegenedgrantcfp2">Shared Futures: Global Learning and Social Responsibility</a>, this curriculum and faculty development project will build upon innovative efforts to reframe general education courses and programs. Participants will create coherent curricular designs that address complex global issues across divisions and disciplines.   Teams from thirty colleges and universities will be selected through a nationwide, competitive application process to lead a high-profile, national effort to:</p>
<ul>
<li>Articulate essential global learning outcomes for all students;</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Refine and disseminate models of global general education curricula that can be adapted across all institutional types;</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Provide faculty development opportunities to assist college faculty in designing and teaching interdisciplinary, integrative courses that focus on real-world global issues; and</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Develop rubrics to assess global learning outcomes.</li>
</ul>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Michael A. Ruane Endowed Chair for Business Engagement, <strong>Providence College School of Business</strong>, Providence, RI.</p>
<p>The<strong> Providence College School of Business</strong> (PCSB) seeks to fill the newly created Michael A. Ruane Endowed Chair for Business Engagement, with a start date of fall of 2011.  Over the next four years the PCSB has committed to rethinking its current curriculum.  The Ruane Chair, filled by an individual experienced in creating and researching curricula that immerse business students in real-world practice, will play a lead role in achieving this goal.</p>
<p>Obligations of the Ruane Chair will include teaching at a one course per semester workload at the undergraduate and/or graduate level; creation and nurturing of faculty research in the area of practice-based learning; maintenance of a personal research agenda and scholarly output commensurate with an Associate or Full Professorship at Providence College; solidification of relationships with members of the business community to create active practice based learning opportunities for students and faculty; chairing the PCSB Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum Committee; and the completion of other programs and initiatives designed to bring national recognition to the PCSB and College in the area of practice-based learning.  A Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree in a relevant field is required.</p>
<p>The Ruane Chair may be appointed with tenure at the Associate or Full Professor level to a five year term, potentially renewable every five years.</p>

<p>On Saturday, October 16, UC Berkeley and Saint Mary’s College of California will be hosting the second annual Leadership &amp; Social Justice Conference.  The conference will take place at U.C. Berkeley between 9:30am-5:00pm.</p>
<p>The Leadership and Social Justice Conference seeks to network and empower college students from across the Bay Area to learn skills and understand issues to create positive social change on their campuses and in their communities..</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>INVITATION TO FACILITATE WORKSHOP</strong><br />
The planning team, which includes students and staff from the above schools as well as the University of San Francisco, Sonoma State University, and Santa Clara University, invites you to facilitate an interactive workshop during this conference.  Over 350 college students will attend the Leadership &amp; Social Justice Conference and there will be over 30 interactive workshops that explore the following issue/areas:</p>
<ul>
<li>Education</li>
<li>Sustainability/Environment</li>
<li>Poverty/Homelessness</li>
<li>Skills for Leadership for Social Justice</li>
</ul>
<p>During the conference, there will be three 75 minute workshop blocks.  Please see attached proposal form; the submission deadline is Friday, July 16, 2010.</p>

You will examine your responsibility as educators to understand the colonial dynamics and the strategies being employed in indigenous communities to decolonize and to reconstruct more just communities. Special emphasis will be placed on learning about Maya history, culture, human rights and resistance to assimilation.  In addition, you will focus on the challenges to building peace, democracy and autonomy for the Maya majority in Guatemala.  This seminar will also explore the role that international organizations and committed individuals have played in addressing systems of domination and defending the rights of Indigenous peoples in Guatemala.</p>
